About the Junior Division
The AOH in America has provided a continuing bridge with Ireland for those Irish Americans who are generations removed from their country of origin. Many AOH Divisions sponsor children from the north of Ireland in the summer programs like “Project Children.” The Order sponsors many programs associated with promoting our Irish Heritage. Irish study programs are sponsored at several American Universities including Hofstra University. And scholarship at universities like Notre Dame and many others are sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
The John F. Kennedy Division 1 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians has been a fixture of the Fairfield County community since 1950. We recently celebrated our 62nd Annual Communion Breakfast. His Excellency Bishop William E. Lori celebrated Mass at St. Patrick’s church and was our keynote speaker at the breakfast which was held at the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield.
The purpose of the Junior AOH is to enlighten young men between the ages of 8 and 16 years of age about the role of the AOH within the community and promote our Irish heritage and Roman Catholic faith using the AOH motto of: Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity. If you have a family member or someone you know who would be interested in joining the Junior AOH please contact any division officer. Also, we are looking for grandfathers, fathers, uncles, cousins to consider joining the men’s division and consider donating time to help out with the Junior AOH.
Our Division is establishing the first Junior AOH Division in the state of Connecticut. Development of the Junior AOH enables us to educate these young men on Irish history and culture such as The Great Hunger, The Jeanie Johnston, and many other important events in Irish history that are not taught in a classroom. More importantly, it enables the AOH to develop future leaders within the organization who understand our commitments to community, family and our Irish Heritage. But it’s not all about Irish history, it’s also about having fun with many activities planned. (see enclosed list of activities).
The John F. Kennedy Division seeks candidates for a new Junior Division. They will be joining one of the finest Irish Catholic organizations in the world. AOH Junior Divisions are made up of Irish-American Catholic boys between the ages of 8 and 16 years. They will be asked to fulfill and follow our motto of: “Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity.” Together they will meet with like-minded friends and preserve Irish Culture through language, art, music, and sports. They will also be introduced into a social atmosphere of the Irish American community.
